Today we have the pleasure of talking to Miriam Valencia, a creative copywriter whose creative spirit and love of art have led her to develop as a writer and painter in every sense of the word.
If you want to get to know her a little better,
KEEP READING!

Miriam, to begin with, could you tell us a little about your career and how you started to develop your artistic and writing skills?

-  Since I was very young I have had an interest in the artistic world. When I was just a few years old I was already painting and writing my own stories, so I guess it was more of a need than an interest: to express myself and develop as an artist. My mother read a lot and maybe that's what got me interested in reading, writing came almost immediately. As for painting, when I was a child I did handicrafts as an extracurricular activity and that's where I started to learn different techniques. Later I ended up doing the Bachillerato Artístico but it wasn't until a few years ago, already working in an advertising agency as a copywriter, that I returned to painting in the idle time when I was waiting for feedback. There was a catharsis there. I started to paint a lot more and to try new techniques, to sign up for specific courses? Another discipline that interests me a lot is photography, with which I experiment in analogue.

We know you are passionate about art, what motivated you to dedicate yourself to these areas? And in terms of your projects, which ones do you enjoy working on the most?

- As I said, I think it was a necessity. When someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I don't remember any other answer than writing. As I grew up and discovered people who are very multifaceted, who know how to do many things and who don't need to define themselves with just one word, it really motivated me not to focus on just one thing or discipline. I think writing is what I like best, what I feel most comfortable doing and how I express myself best. But I also feel that everything else, painting and photography, help me a lot to add to what I write.

Regarding your creative process, could you tell us what essential and indispensable elements inspire you when you write and paint? Do you have a particular place or environment that helps you find balance and harmony to inspire you?

- Living new experiences is the most inspiring thing. Meeting people opens doors for you mentally, new points of view... travelling in every sense. My way of creating is very instantaneous, for example, I write a lot in notes on my mobile phone or in notebooks that I always carry with me. Then I revise and edit, although I hardly ever change anything. To paint I do need more time and space. I don't have a studio, so I try to make my home inspiring, with light, plants and other inspirational works around me.

Recently, we have learned that you have published a book of poetry entitled "Cómo vaciar una piscina". Could you tell us a bit about the meaning of the title and the layout you chose for this project?

- Cómo vaciar una piscina began as my own reflection on my inability to say goodbye or let things go. I wondered at what point I hadn't learned to do that and started writing to find out. At first I wanted it to be a book of essays, but what came out of me were poems, and that's how it ended up being. It was always clear to me that I didn't want it to be a poetry book just with letters, that it had to be accompanied by images and design, that the whole book had to be a journey. In the end, I not only write but I also take photos and paint, so it made sense for that to be reflected in my first book. My friend Marta Márquez, designer and art director, was in charge of turning the book into what it is now. I am very happy with the result. The printing was also very important, the texture of the paper and the details, for example, there is a travelling poem printed on tracing paper, which is the first thing you see when you open the book. Every detail is very carefully taken care of and I feel that it was just what this project asked for.

We would love to know which pieces from the "Ode to an Endless Summer" collection you would select to create your ideal outfit for this spring/summer season and what is the reason behind your choice?

- Within the new collection for me there are a few basics that really go together too well.
The first one is the blue striped jumper, Emanuelle jumper Nocce di Coco, I think it's a summer basic, I mean, there is no summer without a blue striped jumper!!!!
Next I would choose Albertina dress. A dress to wear at any time of the day, it's cool and at the same time it gives you that elegant touch.
You can combine it with beach flip-flops or with more dressed up sandals.

Finally, we would like to congratulate you on your publication and thank you for sharing your background and experience with us.
